The school
attaches great importance to co-curricular activities.
All children are encouraged to develop some hobbies.
A healthy mind in a healthy body is the key to all-round
development and this is ensured through various leisure
activities and physical sports. |
 |
Art
and Craft
Art
and craft form an integral part of the academic curriculum.
Students take part in occasional on-the-spot painting
and drawing competitions organised in school and by outside
agencies. This provides a fillip to the innate creativity
of the children. Regular Art & Craft classes enhance
the aesthetic sensibilities of the children. |
 |
Dance
and Drama
A
lot of encouragement is given to children who have an
aptitude for dance and drama. Classes in Indian dance
are held during school hours for Classes III-V. |
 |
Indian
and Western Music
Both
Indian and Western music are taught in Birla High School.
Special effort is made to tap the talent of the boys who
have a natural flair for singing. The concepts of beauty,
creativity, rhythm and harmony are thus skilfully woven
into the school curriculum. |
 |
Karate
and Yoga
Karate
and Yoga classes have been organised for the children
of Classes I to V, from 2-3 p.m. Karate – for Classes
II, III, IV, V and Yoga – for Classes III, IV and
V. |
 |
Clubs
The
school believes in promoting activities which are informative
and enjoyable. Members of Quiz, Nature and Social Service
clubs meet each Wednesday from 1.45 p.m. – 2.10
p.m. and a variety of activities is planned with the help
of the teachers. The club activities develop both intellect
and attitude in the pupils.
Miscellaneous:
Fete, Annual Concert, Project
and Art and Craft Exhibitions, visits
to old age homes etc. are other activities that find pride
of place in the school calendar. |
 |
Games
and Physical Training
Physical
Training and Games are compulsory for all pupils unless
otherwise medically advised. Athletics, an important factor
in character building, occupies an important place in
the school programme and the annual Sports is a red letter
day in the school calendar. It is our proud boast that
every pupil of Birla High School takes part in the Annual
Sports. |
 |
Elocution
Elocution
competitions in English, Hindi and Bengali are held once
a year for Classes I, II, II, IV & V to develop proper
speech habits in the students. |
 |
Scouts
Scouting
facilities are offered by the school to help students
develop an attitude of self-help and comradeship. They
attend Scout Camps each year. |
 |
Leadership
Training
Students
are introduced to the House system from Class I. At the
annual Investiture ceremony, captains, vice-captains of
Gandhi, Nehru, Netaji and Tagore Houses respectively are
provided with badges of office and undertake to fulfil
their obligations faithfully. |
 |
The
House System
The
boys of the school are divided into the four houses mentioned
above and inter house competitions are frequently arranged
in the sphere of games, quizzing and other co-curricula
activities. This develops team spirit and loyalty and
the Best House receives a rolling trophy at the end of
the academic session. |
